Comments & Conversation
We love a good chat about fermentation. If you leave a comment on our site, we’ll see the info you typed into the form, along with your IP address. We don’t do this to be nosy; it’s just to help our spam filters weed out the bots so the humans can talk in peace.
If you use Gravatar, the system might show your profile picture next to your comment once we’ve approved it.
Media
We do not currently allow users to upload images or files to this website. Should this change in the future, we advise that any uploaded images should not contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS), as this information can be extracted by other visitors. All media currently on the site is provided by us for your viewing only.
Cookies
We value your privacy and aim to keep our site as lean as possible.
General Visitors: We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. Our website analytics are powered by Burst Statistics, which is a cookieless system, meaning no tracking files are stored on your device.
Form Submission: If you use our contact or sign-up forms, cookies may be used temporarily to ensure the security of the submission (via Cloudflare Turnstile) and to remember your preferences.
Administrative Users: If you have an account and log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, additional cookies are used to save your login information and screen display choices.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (such as YouTube videos). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited that website directly.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, particularly if you have an account and are logged in to that website (e.g., your Google/YouTube account).
Who we share your data with
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to outside parties.
For administrative purposes, technical data (such as your IP address) may be processed by our security provider, Cloudflare, to prevent spam and maintain site integrity. If you choose to subscribe to our mailing list, your email address is stored securely for our use only and is not shared with third-party marketers.
How long we retain your data
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we retain your email address until you choose to unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.
For security purposes, temporary logs (such as those used for spam detection) are typically deleted within 30 to 60 days. We do not maintain user profiles or accounts for visitors to this website.
What rights you have over your data
If you have submitted your email address via our newsletter form, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Newsletter subscriptions and form submissions are processed and stored on our secure server. To maintain site security and prevent malicious activity, submissions are checked by Cloudflare Turnstile, an automated spam detection service. We do not transfer your data outside of these essential functional services.
